SAEVM is
The Society for the Advancement of Everyday Visionaries and Makers (SAEVM) is a not for profit organisation celebrating and preserving the achievements of innovative, unsung women in Australia's domestic and decorative arts.
The Society for the Advancement of Everyday Visionaries and Makers is unique in Australia’s current cultural landscape. It advocates for a sector that has long lacked a platform for the many makers and visionaries who have shaped the domestic and decorative arts in Australia.
Why create SAEVM?
What we do
SAEVM OR The Society for the Advancement of Everyday Visionaries and Makers addresses the lack of representation of domestic and decorative arts within major cultural institutions. By championing often-overlooked makers, particularly women, we seek to recognise creative practices rooted in the home and connected to manufacturing and industry—areas historically undervalued in both the creative sector and academic discourse.
By honouring and preserving women’s contributions, the Society helps redress their omission from Australia’s historical narrative. We aim to reframe domestic and decorative arts as significant expressions of skill, creativity, and achievement, while acknowledging their broader cultural and industrial impact.
Operating between academic research and community engagement, the Society fosters collaboration and highlights the cultural value of contemporary making, ensuring these practices are not only preserved but also recognised and appreciated by the wider public.
